The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Detroit Field Division hosted Michigan's first Practitioner Diversion Awareness Training at Wayne State University's Law School on November 9, 2018 in Detroit, Michigan. The conference was developed and designed to address issues of diversion and abuse of pharmaceutical controlled substances.
Nearly 1,000 practitioners registered for the conference, to include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, and other DEA registrants. Practitioners attended the event either in person or via live stream. Conference attendees received nearly seven hours of information on a variety of topics. The presentations, given by both DEA and private instructors, included: DEA's Diversion Control mission; Michigan Automated Prescription System and state legislative updates; the pathophysiology and neurological basis of addiction; CDC's Guideline for Prescribing Opioids; health care fraud; methods of diversion and drug trends; reducing opioid prescribing; electronic prescribing; and Medication-Assisted Treatment.
